Photopoetryblog: Fin de(l) Mundo

I've been studying poetry and its connections with and through photography as it relates to nature and our concept, appreciation and depreciation of our natural world. With my thoughts lingering within these conceptual walls I'm going to make what I'm calling a photopoetryblog post where I couple a photograph (or photographs) of mine with a poem that I am studying or with one that I have always liked. Since there are few of you that check this blog I suppose that it goes without saying that I thank you for humoring my narcissism. And for those who don't understand Spanish, if I can't provide the translation for the Spanish-language poems that I use: sorry. You can always use Google Translate and at the worst you'll have a good laugh or cry.

FIN DE(L) MUNDO

"El peligro" section of Pablo Neruda's book Fin de mundo
My picture (previously posted here and published elsewhere):

Sí, nos dijeron: No resbalen

en los salones encerados

ni en barro ni en nieve ni en lluvia.

Muy bien, dijimos, a seguir

sin resbalar en el invierno.

Pero qué sucedió? Sentimos

bajo los pies algo que huía

y que nos hacía caer.

Era la sangre de este siglo.

Bajó de las secretarías,

de los ventisqueros saqueados,

del mármol de las escaleras

y cruzó el campo, la ciudad,

las redacciones, los teatros,

los almacenes de ceniza,

las rejas de los coroneles:

la sangre cubría las zanjas

y saltaba de guerra en guerra

sobre millones de ojos muertos

que sólo miraban la sangre.

Esto pasó. Yo lo atestiguo.

Ustedes vivirán tal vez

resbalando sólo en la nieve.

A mí me tocó este dolor

de resbalar sobre la sangre.
