I always knew that the Greeks could do it. I confess that I would have expected Plato
to be the one who figured out the answer to how to win the game, but as goalkeeper
he is assigned to the cave that is the goal. Of course Archimedes has the right kind of
attacking mind for the job but in any case many of the players are equipped with
brand new Adidas or Pumas so it really comes down to who kicks first. What I can't
figure out is what book Karl Marx is holding while he warms up and that he later
throws down in disgust over Confucius's no-call on the blantant offsides (really, it
was either Augustine or Thomas Aquinas's fault).
Anyone have an idea? Maybe Don Quijote.

This clip really goes to show the intellect of Monty Python and how humor can cut
through the layers of humanity taking itself too seriously. My favorite subtlety in the clip: Socrates heading in the goal (I would think that he
would play with the more Socratic method of South American soccer and not with the
direct-and-to-the-point European style).
My favorite line: "Nietzsche has been booked for arguing with the referee. He accused
Confucius of having no free will, and Confucius he say: 'Name go in box.'"
That is funny on so many levels (it's funny 'cause it's true).
